"a miracle was preparing..."

I'm reading a book right now called Gilead. It sounds kind of like a book a Humanities class would make you read and based on the title alone I would never have started reading it. My mom and sister actually read it first and loved it. There's a part in the book where the main character, a pastor, talks about the loss of his wife.

The quote from the book goes something like this, "now that I look back, it seems to me that in all that deep darkness a miracle was preparing. So I am right to remember it as a blessed time and myself as waiting in confidence, even if I had no idea what I was waiting for." That quote just gives me the chills and I'll tell you why.

As you all know Dave has been having a tough time finding a job. Right after our graduation the stock market fell apart right along with the financial world. Finance jobs were hard to come by and every company was on a hiring freeze. I would like to think that we "waited in confidence" that we knew we would find a job. Some days were tough but we enjoyed being together and it put lots of things into perspective for us.

Dave did get job offers but nothing felt right and that was even more frustrating. Do we take what we're given and be grateful? Finally, we made our decision to move back east. Dave would sell and we would live in Philadelphia while his family was serving in Omaha. We were comfortable with it even though it meant he'd be unemployed at the end of the summer.

Well it seems a real miracle was preparing itself because just two weeks ago Dave got a call from a company he's kept in touch with since he graduated. Ragnar is a fairly new company that puts on relay races all over the country. The company is "managed", for lack of a better word, by a PE company Dave has done work for. Well, long story short after many meetings and prayers Dave got a job doing the company's finances!

He started the job on Monday and Tuesday was invited to Long Beach CA for one of the races. He's helping with an odd assortment of jobs and will be back on Sunday. We're both still in shock at how wonderful this job is. The company is based in Kaysville UT, right down the street from my parent's house! He is also the only finance guy at Ragnar and will learn a lot. The environment he's in is so casual and relaxed, just what he needs.

Whenever Dave says something like, "I need to get back to work" or "at work today..." we both get these dumb grins on our face and think wow how lucky are we. I really am amazed at how the Lord directs our lives. It's worth wading through that "deep darkness" for the miracle!

YEA! We are so happy for you guys! Good for you for holding out so patiently these last few months. I'm so glad everything worked out, and especially that you get to stay in Utah! Hooray! It's just another testament to me that the Lord really is the one in charge and that there is a plan for each of us. We need to get together to celebrate, but it's going to be a lot harder now that Dave is working full time! Maybe on a weekend???
