What a weird weekend! We had no idea if we were supposed to celebrate Halloween on Saturday or Sunday. So, we turned it into a whole weekend event. Dave had work off on Friday since Halloween is a Ragnar holiday...something about black and orange and dressing up in costumes. Hey, if he gets paid to stay home with us then I'm happy.
Friday we went on a small hike to test out my "new" foot. We didn't get far since my ankle and foot are still pretty stiff but we enjoyed the beautiful fall weather.
Saturday was filled with chores and football. We had a ward Halloween party that night. Kiley was Minny Mouse while Dave and I were tourists (I know it's lame but Kiley was so cute). The idea was to do a trunk or treat but the weather was not cooperating. The kids ended up trick or treating through the halls. We ran out of candy so when we got home we had to leave our porch light off in case kids in the neighborhood tried to come to our house. Apparently the rest of the neighborhood had the same idea cause our cul-de-sac was pitch black...so much for Halloween spirit.
Dave has fond memories of Halloween's past. For dinner, his mom would make pumpkin brains, witches broomsticks, and the infamous skull cake. Finally, after 4 years of marriage, I buckled down and we had our own version of Halloween dinner Sunday night with my family.
For the main course my dad made his famous lasagna also known as intestines or cadaver-stomach-lasagna-leftovers. I had to beg them to stop coming up with names for it cause I really wanted to eat it! Along with the lasagna we had witch fingers made by my mom. A salad full of goblin grins and jello brains by yours truly and to wash down the delicious feast there was blood juice.
We, of course, made the skull cake. The cake it's self was confetti cake and since this is Dave's tradition he did the honors of carving and frosting the cake. We then lit the eyes on fire and admired the awesome-ness of flaming skull eyes.
I can't wait for Kiley's oohs and ahhs over witch finger breadsticks and flaming skull cake. What a fun tradition. Thank you Leslie!

Such cute pictures of Kiley! She is getting so big! And what a fun Halloween dinner. My mom used to do something similar, and I have yet to follow in her footsteps...so good for you. :) We miss you guys & need to get together soon!
I loved all your great ideas. I've discovered that it doesn't really matter what it is as long as you come up with a goofy name. We had steaks this time and just called them bat ssteaks, of course the boys wanted them to be called "human meat" which was a little too much for me. It's all fun though and makes for great memories. I loved your sweet little mini mouse. I just can't wait to kiss those little cheeks! What a dolly.
